The unemployment benefits are the money that the government pays to the unemployed in a certain particular period. It is basic cost of living allowance for the unemployed. According to unemployment law, the unemployed who have the unemployment qualification can get the unemployment benefits.

If the unemployed don’t meet unemployment qualification, the unemployment office will refuse the application of the unemployment benefits. The following conditions don't meet the unemployment qualification:

Generally speaking, regular unemployment benefits are paid for a maximum of 26 weeks. The unemployment benefits can reach half of your salaries in some states. It is the first thing which you should do to apply for the unemployment benefits when you were laid off. Receiving check will spend the time for 2 to 3 weeks, so I advise you to apply as early as possible.
